Weatherford offers the broadest set of well-abandonment solutions in the industry. Further, we have a global footprint with decades of experience in this market. Over the past year, we have bolstered our capabilities in the areas of specialty rigs, project management, technologies, and heavy-lift equipment — all of which enhance the success of offshore abandonment operations. We are constantly increasing our abandonment portfolio in the interest of providing our clients with a comprehensive solution scoped and managed by a single company. We will even interface with regulatory bodies on our clients’ behalf.

Well Abandonment Integrated Approach
Leveraging our broad portfolio of offshore abandonment tools and services alongside computer models as well as best practices developed over years of plug and abandonment (P&A) project management, our Well Abandonment Advisor solution offers a comprehensive approach. We use risk‑based software to analyze available well data, weigh risks, and suggest contingencies to ensure the job is done safely, on time and budget. These offerings, in addition to our risk‑based contract model, have made Weatherford a go‑to offshore abandonment provider for clients worldwide.
Well Abandonment Integrated Approach
Our three-step process enables proper scoping and risk assessment at the outset.
Plan
Through careful analysis of the well files, our team is able to develop an appropriate plan based on a modified turnkey model. This reduces the risk of scope creep and also distributes the risk so that the client is not left with a large, unanticipated bill toward the end of the project.
Mobilize
With an appropriately scoped plan in place, we engage third parties as needed to source specialized equipment and services. We also file applications with regulatory authorities as needed.
Execute
Finally, we oversee the execution of the project, from rig-up to close-out.

Rig-Free® intervention and abandonment technology
Our unique family of Rig-Free units replace costly jackups, workover rigs, and snubbing units — thereby dramatically reducing the operational time and cost of critical offshore late-stage interventions, production revitalization, and abandonment. Using an innovative self-clamping skidding system, each Rig-Free pulling and jacking unit can access multiple wells from a single rig-up.
Mechanical outside‑latch single-trip (M.O.S.T.) tool
The M.O.S.T. tool is designed specifically for abandoning offshore wells, where operators face the challenge of needing to remove the subsea wellhead from the ocean floor. The M.O.S.T. tool enables cutting and recovery of multiple casing strings below the mud line in a single trip, which saves rig time and minimizes damage to seal surfaces.
Endura® dual‑string section mill
A critical element in compliant abandonment is establishing a rock-to-rock hydraulic seal across the borehole that mimics natural bedding. The Endura section mill cuts through and removes both inner and outer casing strings in a single trip using uniquely designed cutter blades, improving efficiency and making the wellbore easier to seal.
